Layoffs Come from Crytek While New Crysis is Awaited
Crytek, one of the important names in the gaming world, announced on its official Twitter account that it will lay off 15% of its 400 employees. The company stated that this decision was made due to the negative market dynamics that have affected the gaming industry in the last few years. Crytek also announced that it has stopped the development of the new Crysis game and shifted its resources to the Hunt: Showdown 1896 project.
The Conditions That Forced Crytek to Make Its Decision
Crytek stated in its post that the layoffs will affect both the development teams and the shared services units. The company had suspended the development of the new Crysis game as of the third quarter and focused its resources on the growth of Hunt: Showdown 1896. However, even these changes were not enough for the company to maintain its financial sustainability.
The statement included the following statements: “Like many of our colleagues in the industry, we are not immune to the complex and negative market dynamics that have affected us over the past few years. Despite our efforts to reduce costs and lower operating expenses, we have seen that layoffs are inevitable.”
Crytek emphasized that Hunt: Showdown 1896 continues to grow and that their commitment to this project continues. The company announced that it will continue to develop the CRYENGINE game engine and focus its strategic plans on these two areas in addition to this game.
It was also announced that severance pay and career support will be provided to the employees who are laid off. Crytek stated that it maintains its faith in the future, but that it has to transition to a more agile structure under current conditions. While this decision by Crytek has had a wide impact in the gaming world, it is a matter of curiosity how the company will follow Hunt: Showdown 1896 and CRYENGINE.
