League of Legends Developer Sends McDonald’s Message to Players Who Boosted Their Accounts

Account boosting, a long-standing topic of debate in the League of Legends world, is under the spotlight with Riot Games’ new enforcement plans. The new update brings harsh penalties to those who provide and use this “service.” This decision has drawn criticism from some players who rely on this method for their income. Riot Games’ response has become a trending topic on social media.

Riot Games’ New Action Against Boosting

Riot Games announced that with the LoL 25.18 update, penalties for smurf accounts and boosting services will be increased. This will target those who play on other players’ accounts to increase their rank and receive compensation in return. The company states that these methods disrupt the game’s balance and negatively impact the player experience.

One of the players who reacted, saying that he earned a large portion of his income from boosting and that these changes would put him in a difficult position. Riot’s product director, Drew Levin, drew attention with his response on social media. When the player asked, “What am I going to do now? Work at McDonald’s?”, Levin responded by sharing a link to McDonald’s career page.

Levin responded, “You know you build a business by disrupting other players’ games, right?”, emphasizing that this practice undermines the integrity of the game system. Levin also reacted to the player’s references to the “boosting industry,” describing it as “tricking the skill rating system.”

This response garnered considerable attention within the community. While many players welcomed Riot Games’s firm stance on this issue, others were wary of its full effectiveness. Riot Games aims to minimize such activities in the future.
