Level Zero: Extraction Cannot Continue

Level Zero: Extraction was closed in development just two weeks after its full release in January 2025. The game’s publisher tinyBuild and developer DogHowl announced on Steam that the game had failed to perform as expected and that their small team was no longer able to continue the game.

Level Zero: Extraction’s Short Journey

Initially introduced in 2022 as an asymmetrical survival game, Level Zero attracted attention with a concept in which scientists tried to escape an alien creature. However, it was later re-announced as Level Zero: Extraction, evolving into the “extraction shooter” genre. In this new version, players try to survive in a high-tech environment as armed mercenaries.

The game’s creators admitted that their efforts to combine the asymmetrical horror and extraction shooter genres did not have the impact they expected. The game, which experienced a significant decrease in player numbers immediately after its release, reached a peak of 2,600 active players, but this number dropped below 100 within a few months. With the full release, this number only reached 98.

The production team announced that the Level Zero: Extraction servers will remain open despite the end of development. Players will be able to continue playing the game, and data resets will continue on the first Thursday of each month. However, no new maps, weapons or cosmetic content will be added, and there will be no weekend events.

The DogHowl team stated that they aim to reflect the experiences they gained from this process on their new project. Details about a new multiplayer, cooperative game they are currently working on are expected to be shared soon. Level Zero: Extraction, on the other hand, has taken its place as a lesson in the gaming world with its short journey.
