Lords of the Fallen Became a Joke
The Soulslike genre has experienced a rebirth in recent years. Following in the footsteps of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, many games have successfully captured the attention of gamers. Lords of the Fallen was also part of this trend. However, the development team’s social media post, “We’ve been carrying the torch of the soulslike genre for the last two years,” turned things upside down. This ambitious launch was met with derision from genre fans.
Lords of the Fallen Team Faces Backlash
The post quickly received thousands of responses. Players mocked the developer, asking, “Are you carrying the torch of this genre?” Some commented, “You can’t even make the top five,” while others criticized the studio, saying, “Even Elden Ring didn’t make that claim.” The backlash was so intense that the team was forced to explain that the post was actually intended as “humor.”
The team’s defense of “we just wanted to have a little fun” escalated tensions rather than defusing them. Many found this statement disingenuous and accused the studio of using “provocative language to gain attention.” The developer responded, “A good joke can sometimes catch fire.” However, the community viewed this approach as arrogant.
Lords of the Fallen wasn’t well-received when it first launched. However, recent posts have tarnished the game’s reputation. Some players still believe this behavior is a promotional campaign for the upcoming sequel. Nevertheless, this surge in social media seems to have cost the studio dearly.
It remains to be seen whether the development team will learn from its mistake. Players now want not only good games but also genuine communication. It appears that Lords of the Fallen has once again become more than just “misunderstood” but also a source of ridicule.
