Lost Assassin’s Creed Game Revealed

The Assassin’s Creed world remains quiet for long. Striking details have emerged about a new Assassin’s Creed game that Ubisoft canceled. Focusing on the aftermath of the American Civil War, this project aimed to tell a bold story that could have fundamentally changed the direction of the series.

Assassin’s Creed Project Cancelled Due to Political Repercussions

According to the information revealed, the game was set in the post-Civil War era of the United States and would tell the story of a former slave who regains his freedom. Players would embark on a dark journey as the character returns to the Southern states and confronts rising racism and the threat of the Ku Klux Klan. This idea generated significant buzz because it would have taken Assassin’s Creed’s historical narrative to a much harsher and more politically charged level.

The project was being developed at Ubisoft’s Quebec studio under the codename “Project Scarlet.” Directed by Scott Philips, the man behind Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, the project was highly motivated during the development process, and the concept work was progressing positively. However, some executives within Ubisoft began to believe that the political climate, particularly in the US, presented a risky environment for the game.

According to sources, the cancellation decision came shortly after the controversy surrounding the Yasuke character in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The company shelved the project to avoid similar backlash. While this decision disappointed the series’ creative team, Ubisoft preferred to avoid political polarization.

The canceled game was scheduled for release in fiscal 2028. The project, described as an RPG, was poised to be one of the series’ most ambitious games, both atmospherically and thematically. However, these plans were overshadowed by political tensions and public reaction.

Today, the only question left is “what could have been?” While the Assassin’s Creed series is known for its bold approach to historical events, this canceled project could have been the series’ most unique and unsettling story. Whether Ubisoft will ever reopen this file remains to be seen.
