Region Lock for Lost Soul Aside

Ultizero Games’ Lost Soul Aside is currently propped up to be an exciting PlayStation release, showing up with a spot in the company’s February State of Play with a May 30 release date. Although Players are excited to see the final product of a title that Yang Bing has been working on for the better part of a decade, there’s a growing dissatisfaction with how PlayStation is handling publishing games like this.

A report from Tech4Gamers confirms that Lost Soul Aside is region-locked on Steam, even though the game lacks a PlayStation Network account requirement to be played on the platform. Based on metrics from SteamDB, there are 133 countries that Lost Soul Aside will be unavailable to play in.

This is sad news for players who enjoys hack & slash style. If the game lives up to people’s expectations, it might see success comparable to breakout successes like Stellar Blade and Black Myth: Wukong. Players are looking to Sony for answers on this issue.

Although it’s clear that some controversies can elicit a response from Sony, with PlayStation Network account-linking creating a larger problem for its affiliated developers than they may have anticipated, it doesn’t seem like this is an issue Sony will budge on any time soon. Some have pointed to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as an example of PlayStation failing to do its biggest releases justice on PC, identifying the issue as Sony’s overall reluctance to enter into business with over 130 countries, when it can suggest the use of alternate accounts as a catch-all solution.
