Severe Charges in Nintendo Switch Theft
According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Reed-Obafumi has been linked to at least seven separate thefts between April and June. The suspect was taken into custody on June 17 and has been charged with a total of 12 felony counts, including multiple counts of theft and committing a new crime while out on bail.
Authorities have not shared full details of the incidents, but they have emphasized that the targeting of libraries raises concerns about the community. “Our libraries are the cornerstone of our community and must be preserved for everyone to enjoy,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Marin County authorities said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and it is not yet clear how many of the stolen games have been recovered. However, it has been confirmed that a few games have been recovered, indicating that progress is being made in the investigation.
Nintendo’s new console, the Switch 2, became the fastest-selling hardware in the company’s history when it was released in June. However, sales of some third-party games fell short of expectations. The Reed-Obafumi case has raised questions about how games are treated in public spaces like libraries.
