Marvel Rivals Will Be Able to Create Original Characters
Marvel, the vast universe of comics, has long held a significant place in the gaming industry. The recent Marvel Rivals franchise will feature not only familiar heroes but also brand new ones. The game developer’s permission to create original characters is seen as an exciting prospect for both fans and the gaming world.
Original Character Opportunity in Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals developer Netease has been granted free rein by Marvel to create original characters. While game director Guangguang did not confirm specific plans, he did state that such a possibility is on the table in the future. This flexibility means the Marvel universe won’t be limited to existing characters; new heroes can also be brought to life.
Marvel’s decision may seem surprising at first glance. The company’s comic book history spans over seven decades and includes thousands of characters. However, games are known to occasionally open doors to brand new characters. While it’s unclear whether Netease will exercise this freedom, players have already begun speculating about potential new characters.
Similar examples have previously proven successful in the gaming world. Luna Snow, created for Marvel Future Fight, appeared in the comics in 2019 and quickly gained popularity. Similarly, an original character appearing in Marvel Rivals could quickly gain fan support and become a part of the universe.
A notable feature of Marvel Rivals is its ability to highlight lesser-known characters. The rise to popularity of previously uncommon characters like Jeff the Land Shark demonstrates the game’s success in this area. On the DC side, Harley Quinn originated in the animated series and later became one of the most powerful characters in the universe. All of this demonstrates the potential for creating original characters in Marvel Rivals.
