Getting Started to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

In these days, we are getting a lot of Remake and Remaster games. Some of them are successful, some of them are disappointment to us. These games are made by developers in order to make player feel the same way that it previously launched. Personally, I like nostalgia, especially if it’s a game that I once played with my whole heart. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a game like that to me. There are some comfort games for almost all players, game that you frequently play certain parts or watch your favorite cutscene. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a game that suits this example. With every cutscene, every line or play style, it feels a lot original and nothing has ever made to surpass it, not even in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. This game also marks the beginning of certain events that will happen in the upcoming games.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an action espionage game where you take the role as character code named as Snake, later will be named as “Naked Snake” and “The Big Boss”. Your mission is to infiltrate facility and rescue scientist named Sokolov. That’s the beginning of the story, but turns out, things will turn out differently and we face something that we never thought happened. To keep the things less spoiler containing, we can summarize our adventure as that during our mission, we will lost our beloved ones, do things that has to be done and eventually try to survive and complete our mission. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has a story that everyone who enjoys games should experience.

With side characters, enemies and famous dialogs, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is offering entertaining playtime for players. Main Characters, The Boss, Snake, Ocelot, Volgin and Eva are all well written characters that back in time, they mark a new era in the video games. The story evolves around mostly The Boss, Snake and Volgin. In story, everything explains when the time is right. No unanswered questions, everything makes sense and in the ending, you will probably shed a lot tear after learning everything.

If you are fan of actian espionage games or even love stealth experience, you will have great time during your playthrough. We say stealth experience but you don’t have to hide all the time, you can choose the action side and kill every enemy in your way. The game supports you with this as well. After you eliminate certain amount of enemies in that area, soldiers will eventually go into search command because you got rid of soldiers that noticed you. You can choose this side and avoid stealth for certain time.

Action Espionage of All Time

When you talk about action espionage, the first franchise comes to your mind is Metal Gear Solid and it makes it’s job perfectly. The stealth experience is fine, you can choose to go full action and most importantly, gameplay elements feels real. When you are in cover, you can make noise to distract your enemies and ambush them in the right time. You want to keep your stealth that’s why you will use silencer and tranquilizer to harm anyone. They will be in sleep and you just go pass and nothing harmed but most importantly, you will keep your stealth. You can avoid action totally, by going into cartoon box, you can act like it’s just common box and nothing in it. But you have to make it look like not obvious because soldiers will suspect something and eventually come check under what’s in the box. Hiding under box sometimes brings funny moments and it’s the most famous thing about Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Your outfit is important for your stealth too. You have to wear the same color kamouflage as the environment so soldiers won’t notice you at first sight or suspect something. There are lots of kamouflages you can choose from. If you are in jungle, you can prefer green kamo to keep your stealth. In some missions, you have to take another character’s outfit to infiltrate certain areas, these disguises comes with benefits as your enemies won’t suspect about you but not all of them. If you make it too obvious or run around them oftenly, you will eventually give up your disguise and ruin everything, now they are all in full alert and you have to hide in order to get your stealth back.

The recommended thing for Metal Gear Solid to keep your stealth, but as I mentioned earlier, in some situations, you can go full action and forget about stealth but that’s not optimal way to play the game. You will lose a lot of ammo, health items and enemies will spawn frequently to defeat you. Not to mention going through different places and staying on alert mode until lose your trace. Keeping your stealth and experiencing this action espionage at fullest is the thing we most enjoy as the fans of Metal Gear Solid. There are some rules to keep your stealth in your gameplay. The first obvious and yet affective one is that don’t leave trace behind you. Let’s say you killed an enemy in your way, then you have to drag that body somewhere no one can see, otherwise the enemies will go alert mode and you will eventually end up killing more enemies on your way and that’s a messy way to finish your mission. You have to keep your stealth and avoid killing enemies as much as possible but no harm to killing more if you are full of ammos and health items in your inventory.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Review

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is offering smooth experience for players, with each place you visit, new adventure is waiting for player and you will wonder what will happen next. Developers prefered to keep cutscenes long, that’s why you can just grab your coffee and watch the cutscene after the long fight. As for the boss enemies, we encounter few bosses and most of them called Cobra Unit, which explains in the story detailed. Each Cobra unit members have different boss mechanic, some of them is hard to beat, the other ones are piece of cake. Personally, The Pain was hard for me. In my every playthrough, I spent the most time trying to beat The Pain and it’s not the first time I’m playing Metal Gear Solid 3. The game is not that hard in total but keeping your stealth is the important key and avoid killing if possible. There is a Cobra Unit member called The Sorrow, each enemy or creature you killed during playthrough, you encounter them in this phase, I can’t say it’s actually boss fight because you only walk through river. Personally I found this idea genius. The developers made a good decision to add a boss fight like that since it fits the concept perfectly for the character.

During your playthrough, just like in the name of the game, you have to hunt and take whatever you can to eat in order to keep your stamina full. In jungle you commonly find snakes and hunt them to eat later. You can find fish, spider, rat or such but mostly snakes since they are the most common one. In sections like laboratory, you can find foods like instant noodles. These are also giving you stamina. Speaking of stamina, the important thing in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is that you have to keep your stamina high and cover if you want to regain health. Unlike other games, you can’t instantly regain your health, but instead you have to keep your stamina full and wait for your health to be filled. Sometimes this can annoying but when you think it, it’s actually reasonable since you are trying to stay alive in jungle, you have to move slowly and don’t rush anything.

Perfection with Every Aspect

Story, gameplay, characters are so well made in game, everytime I play the game, I want it to not end. With long, deep cutscenes, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater feels like a movie with gameplay. With historical moments and storytelling, it’s one of the best games of all time in gaming history. If you are a Metal Gear Solid fan, then it’s probably your favorite game as well because this game also plays the role of start of everything. The game takes place in 1964, in other Metal Gear Solid games, you see some consequences of things happened in this game. That is why Metal Gear Solid 3 is important game for this franchise.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is offering playthrough around 8-14 hours. If you know the playthrough, you can probably finish the game around 8 hours. If you try to collect everything, beat every enemies and check every corner, your playthrough will be long as well and you are welcome to do it since there are lots of things needs to be collected in game. You have to hunt a lot since you have to eat, just like in real world but if you have lots of animal meats in your inventory, they will get rotten in time and don’t give you much stamina. So you need to check them and see if they are rotten, if it’s been a while since you hunt them, you can prioritize them to eat first then you can eat new ones later. Thankfully this doesn’t happen with noodles and rations, you can eat them whenever you want.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater also offering two extra content you can play. The first one is kinda hilarious. In this content, you have to rescue monkeys from various maps. Each map containing 10 monkeys and if you collect them in certain amount of time, you can get rewards. The second one is some mystery. This mode contains some hack and slash elements. With blade wielding character, you have to slash your enemies. It’s not the best content but it works out fine if you are looking for different experience but you probably won’t play it that much since it feels repetative after a while.

Faithfull Remake from Developers

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the remake version of original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and it’s the same game. Developers didn’t make any changes to story, events and boss fights. The game kept as the same, but graphics got better with new game engine and new character models. It feels so nostalgic to see the game with high quality models. Story, gameplay didn’t get old a bit. It still feels so enjoyable and refreshing. It amazed me so much that I stopped playing and examined my surrounding during my playthrough. It’s good to see Metal Gear Solid franchise is back. Because it’s been a lot.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater contains few changes in gameplay that makes your job easier. For example, in original, you have to change your camo in menu but in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, you can just change it just like you can change your weapon. It’s smooth and faster. That way, you can blend in better.

Controls are also optimized. I played with keyboard and mouse and I haven’t noticed any flaw with it. You can increase your sensivity from options as well, I increased my sensivity to 1.3 so I could aim better and it helped a lot.

Last Words Regarding Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid 3 was already a perfect game, but with this remake, developers made it beyond perfect. I haven’t noticed how time passed when I’m playing this remake version. It felt so nostalgic to see my favorite Metal Gear Solid game with this astonishing graphics. That’s how developers need to make remake versions of games. They need to keep original because that’s how we loved these games. Some flaws can be changed but I personally don’t want radical changes in remake versions. Thanks to developers, we got an amazing remake for Metal Gear Solid 3. I’m looking forward to see more for Metal Gear Solid franchise.
