Minecraft-Like Hytale Cancelled After 10 Years
The Hytale project, which the Minecraft community has been eagerly waiting for for years, has been canceled after more than a decade of development. The game, which Hypixel Studios developed with the support of Riot Games and aimed to combine the Minecraft experience with its own RPG elements, unfortunately could not be brought to a stage that would meet expectations. This sad development reveals that Hypixel Studios will also be gradually closing down.
Hytale Cancellation and Hypixel Studios’ Closing Process
Hypixel Studios described the cancellation of Hytale as an “incredibly difficult decision” in a detailed statement on its official website. The company stated that many difficulties arose over the years in the development of the game, technical goals grew, and despite radical changes made to the game engine, the project could not reach the desired level. Although the development team considered options such as reducing the scope of the project or trying new paths, they thought that these paths would damage the special structure at the core of Hytale.
Riot Games’ acquisition of Hypixel Studios in 2020 had given hope to the project, but with the increase in expectations and the development of the genre, the bar for Hytale has also been raised. Hypixel also confirmed that they were looking for ways to continue the project with different investors, but new financing could not be found. For this reason, it was stated that generous compensation packages will be offered to employees and the studio will be completely closed in the coming months.
It was emphasized that this cancellation will not affect Hypixel’s famous Minecraft server; the server will continue to operate independently. The studio thanked the community and stated that the spirit of Hytale and the experiences gained from the project will be carried over to possible future projects. With this news, players said goodbye to the Hytale dream they had been waiting for for years.
