More Than 200 Actors Tested for the Role of Mister Terrific
The Superman film, which will start the new era of the DC Cinematic Universe, is being prepared for release with great expectations. One of the most striking roles in the production, which includes many iconic characters in its cast, is Mister Terrific. James Gunn stated that the casting for this character was the most difficult stage in the process and announced that they decided on Edi Gathegi among more than 200 candidates.
James Gunn Had a Hard Time Choosing the Role of Mister Terrific
In an interview with Blavity TV, James Gunn said, “Finding the right name to portray Mr. Terrific was really difficult,” and explained how meticulous this process was. Stating that none of the more than 200 actors who participated in the auditions could fully reflect the spirit of the character, Gunn stated that he finally remembered Edi Gathegi and asked casting director John Papsidera why he had not been interviewed. The role fell into place almost automatically when Gathegi participated in the auditions.
Describing Gathegi’s performance as “sharp, balanced and witty,” Gunn stated that he perfectly conveyed the intellectual depth and charisma needed for the character. Gathegi was previously known for his work in the X-Men: First Class and Start-Up series. This role will be his first big break in the DC universe.
Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific, will be played by Edi Gathegi in the film; he is known for his superior intelligence, being a billionaire and being the owner of the technology giant Holt Industries. Described as the “third smartest person” in the DC universe after Lex Luthor and Batman, Holt’s reason for joining a superhero team sponsored by Maxwell Lord is among the questions the film will answer.
The Superman film will be released on July 11 and will be the first cinema step of the new DC universe directed by James Gunn. David Corenswet stands out as Superman in the film; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Many actors, including Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Milly Alcock, will appear on the big screen as DC heroes for the first time.
