Mortal Kombat 3 Confirmed at Comic-Con

Screenwriter Jeremy Slater announced the third film’s development at a Comic-Con panel he attended with the Mortal Kombat II team. Slater stated that Warner Bros. and New Line were very pleased with the second film and had already greenlit a sequel. The fact that the third film was being prepared before it even hit theaters demonstrates the studio’s confidence in the project.

Details of the new film are currently being kept under wraps, but the success of Mortal Kombat II is thought to inform the third installment. Slater confirmed that he has begun work on the script, saying, “We know this universe deserves more stories.” The director and cast are yet to be announced, but it’s anticipated that many of the characters from the second film will return.

Mortal Kombat II is currently in post-production, and its release date has been updated to May 15, 2026. This early approval from Warner Bros. is attributed to the positive feedback the film has received from test screenings. The series’ visual effects and fight choreography are also said to be significantly superior to previous installments.

Mortal Kombat, the film adaptation of the legendary 1990s fighting game series, is successfully continuing its rebirth. The first film exceeded box office expectations, while the second film features prominent newcomers like Karl Urban and Tati Gabrielle. Building on this momentum, the third film is expected to establish the series as a permanent fixture within modern action cinema.
