Most Activision IPs Still Not Available on Game Pass
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, completed in 2023, had a major impact on the gaming world. Players hoped that numerous franchises, from Crash Bandicoot to Tony Hawk, would be added to Game Pass. However, despite the passage of time, many of these expectations remain unfulfilled.
Activision Series Missing from Game Pass
Among the IPs Microsoft acquired after the acquisition are many important franchises, including Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Prototype, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and classic Spider-Man games. However, the majority of these titles are still not available in the Game Pass library. Players are forced to settle for current series like Call of Duty.
According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, social media user Crusader3456 has compiled a comprehensive list of all Activision games. According to this list, many games owned by Microsoft are still unavailable. Furthermore, it’s noted that the list, however comprehensive, still doesn’t include all the games. This suggests the situation is much larger than we thought.
The absence of older Call of Duty games is particularly striking. Corden suggests that Microsoft is wary of players gravitating towards these classic titles because they lack microtransaction support, making them less profitable than current series. It’s believed that these older games aren’t being made available due to the risk of “cannibalizing its own brand.”
While this strategy has commercial merit, it’s also disappointing for players. The acquisition was primarily expected to expand the Game Pass library with Activision’s extensive library. However, after two years, the fact that so few IPs have been added to the system has left players wondering, “When will Activision games be released?”
