New Painkiller Game Release Date Announced
The classic first-person shooter series Painkiller returns with modern graphics and renewed gameplay. The new Painkiller game, developed by 3D Realms and Anshar Studios, will be released on October 9, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC platforms. Digital pre-orders are now open, while special content will also be offered in physical versions.
Painkiller Returns
The new Painkiller takes players on a dark and fast-paced adventure set in Purgatory, which can be considered the front room of Hell. Players choose one of four characters condemned for their sins to fight against Azazel’s demon armies preparing to take over the world. This game, which can be played both alone and with up to three people online or offline, preserves the chaotic structure of the old series while enriched with new mechanics.
The game’s core gameplay is based on combat supported by fast movement capabilities. Characters equipped with jumping, dashing and grappling mechanics fight demonic enemies on large gothic maps. Tarot cards provide players with special power-ups, which can be combined with teammates to create impressive attack combinations.
Players can choose from four characters: energy-focused Ink, health-advantage-rich Sol, high-damage Roch and balanced Void. Each character has their own unique skill set. In addition, those who purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game will gain access to three downloadable content packs that will be released post-launch.
Painkiller is not just a nostalgic return; it is also a modern production that aims to reintroduce the series to today’s FPS players. The development team promises a brand new experience while honoring the series’ roots with innovative gameplay mechanics that remain true to the series.
