Nintendo Answers GameCube Riddle
The new GameCube controller introduced with the Switch 2 was on the agenda with the question of whether it was designed only for classic games. Nintendo finally made a statement that satisfied this curiosity. This special controller, which was developed to be compatible with the GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection, may not be limited to these games only. However, according to Nintendo’s warning, there may be some compatibility issues when used in different games. Although this statement expands the potential areas of use of the new controller, it invites users to be cautious.
GameCube Controller Limited Usage on Switch 2
According to the official statement made by Nintendo, the new GameCube controller was primarily designed for games that will be included in the “Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics” collection. This collection will only be accessible to Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. The launch games of the collection include iconic productions such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX and SoulCalibur 2. Popular titles such as Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will also be added in the future.
There are some limitations to using the controller with other games on the Switch 2. Nintendo notes that the controller doesn’t have all the buttons and features found on the standard Switch 2 gamepad, so it may not be fully compatible with other games. However, the language of the statement does open the door to the possibility that it could technically be used in other games. For example, some users may try using the controller with button mapping in games like Mario Kart World.
Despite this uncertainty, the controller is currently available for sale on the My Nintendo Store in the UK. The price has been announced as £59. This collectible item could be a nostalgic choice, especially for classic Nintendo fans. It is also an important accessory for collectors.
While Nintendo’s ability to make such old games playable on the new system with emulation technology has been welcomed, some critics question why such content wasn’t offered on the first Switch. Still, making GameCube games accessible again presents a significant opportunity for many gamers. These productions, especially those whose physical copies are now hard to find, will be able to reach a wider audience digitally.
