Nintendo Becomes New Target of Famous Hacker Group
Nintendo, one of the gaming giants, has allegedly become the new target of the hacker group Crimson Collective. According to a report by cyber intelligence firm Hackmanac, the group shared screenshots claiming to have “obtained files belonging to Nintendo.” However, the Japanese tech giant has yet to confirm the incident.
Crimson Collective Adds Nintendo to Its Target List
According to Hackmanac, the hacker group published images of folders labeled “Nintendo topic files” online. This sparked serious concerns about unauthorized access to the company’s servers. However, the lack of any statement from Nintendo as of October 11th raises questions about the veracity of the incident.
Crimson Collective has made a name for itself by attacking numerous companies in recent weeks. The group recently announced that it had stolen 570 GB of data by hacking into the private GitHub repositories of software company Red Hat. Red Hat quickly confirmed the attack and reported that the group had demanded a ransom from them. Experts suggest that the Nintendo attack may have been carried out using a similar method.
Cyberattacks in the gaming industry have been on the rise in recent years. Insomniac Games previously faced a major data breach, with confidential documents from Marvel’s Wolverine and Spider-Man projects leaked online. Such attacks can directly impact not only companies but also gaming communities.
Cybersecurity experts say that major gaming companies must now invest in stronger defenses to protect not only game data but also employee and user information. If Nintendo confirms the attack, the Japanese giant’s handling of the incident will be closely watched across the industry.
