Nintendo Breaks 13-Year Record with Switch
Nintendo has announced the sales figures for its Switch console. Total sales in the first nine months of fiscal 2025 have surpassed 150 million units. This makes the Switch the first console to reach this level in 13 years. The last console to achieve this feat was the Nintendo DS, also a Nintendo product.
Switch is the Third Best-Selling Console of All Time
The Nintendo Switch is the third best-selling video game console of all time in terms of total sales. If it sells another 4 million units, it will overtake the Nintendo DS in second place. At the top of the list is Sony’s PlayStation 2 with 160 million sales. The Nintendo DS has attracted attention over the years with its various hardware updates and extensive game library. The Switch seems to have achieved similar success thanks to its portability, innovative gaming experience, and strong game library.
Nintendo has also achieved impressive figures in software sales. The company has sold a total of 1.3 billion software units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe maintains its popularity with 67.35 million sales, while the newly released Super Mario Party Jamboree became the fastest-selling game in the series with 6.17 million sales. However, Switch hardware sales fell by 30.6% compared to last year, while game sales fell by 24.4%. Despite this decline, Nintendo managed to maintain its overall performance strong with the Switch’s sales success.
Nintendo also announced its plans for the future. The company made the first introduction of the Switch 2 and announced that details about the new console will be shared at the Nintendo Direct event to be held on April 2. While the price and release date of the new console have not yet been determined, expectations are quite high. Having broken a major record with the Switch, Nintendo continues to solidify its place in the gaming world. How the next-generation console will improve on this success is eagerly awaited.
