Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Won’t Be What You Expect
New information continues to emerge about Nintendo‘s highly anticipated new console, the Switch 2. According to the company’s vice president Nate Bihldorff, the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers will not feature Hall effect analog sticks. This news has disappointed gamers who were expecting a more durable technology, especially due to the “stick drift” problem frequently experienced in the previous model.
Nintendo Doesn’t Give Up on Tradition
In an interview with Tom’s Hardware, Bihldorff clearly stated that Hall sensors will not be used in the Joy-Cons. These sensors provide a longer life for the analog sticks thanks to their structure that does not require physical contact. However, instead of opting for this technology, Nintendo plans to continue developing and maintaining its previous controller structure. It is estimated that factors such as cost, production process or technical compatibility may be behind this decision.
The stick drift problem experienced in the first version of the Joy-Cons caused Nintendo to be sued for a long time. For this reason, many users were expecting a more durable controller with the Switch 2. However, the clarification that Hall effect solutions would not be used was met with mixed reactions on social media. Some users are worried that this decision will cause the same problems again in the long run.
Nintendo, on the other hand, assures that the new version of the Joy-Cons will be more durable and more powerful than the previous models. Bihldorff stated that the durability of the controllers has been increased and that the company continues its developments in this area. Nevertheless, despite similar promises made before, the problems experienced cause users to approach with caution.
The full technical details of the Switch 2 have not yet been shared. However, this latest development shows that Nintendo continues to maintain its traditional line in some important preferences regarding its new console. Although the lack of Hall sensors is seen as a disadvantage, a clearer judgment on the performance of the controllers will be made with the release of the device thanks to the importance the company attaches to software and hardware compatibility.
