Nintendo Switch Prices Are Hiking
Nintendo has announced a price increase for its popular game console, the Nintendo Switch. The company stated that this increase will take effect on August 3rd and is due to “market conditions.” While no details were provided in the official statement, it is suspected that US trade policies are a factor.
Nintendo Switch Models and Accessories Will Be Priced Higher
According to Nintendo’s announcement, the price increase covers not just a single model but virtually the entire Switch product line. The Nintendo Switch—OLED Model, the original Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch Lite, and select accessories will be directly affected by the price increase. Additionally, some Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo figures, and exclusive products like the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will also be affected by the new pricing.
The Nintendo Switch currently sells for $299.99, while the OLED model sells for $349.99. However, the new prices after the price hike are not yet clear. Nintendo cautiously stated that “price adjustments may be necessary,” leaving the door open to the possibility of a future price increase for the Switch 2.
The price hike coincided with Nintendo’s first-quarter financial report, in which it announced that it had sold 5.82 million Switch 2 units. The company’s previous move to Vietnam from China was widely considered an attempt to avoid US tariffs. However, US President Trump’s recent expansion of tariffs on Vietnam may have thwarted this strategy and increased costs.
Users may want to reconsider their purchasing plans before Nintendo Switch models are increased. The fact that the price increase includes accessories could lead to additional costs.
