NVIDIA RTX 5090 Burned Again

A new user experience shared on Reddit has brought the issues with the NVIDIA RTX 5090‘s power connectors back to the agenda. According to the allegations, the connector melted when the graphics card was under high load, causing not only the card but also the 1000W power supply it was connected to to burn. The incident is consistent with previously reported cases.

NVIDIA RTX 5090 Connectors Create Controversy Again

The images shared by the user show that the 16-pin power connector connected to the RTX 5090 is seriously damaged. It is stated that this damage spread to the PSU and completely disabled the system. The fact that a $2900 graphics card and an expensive power supply were damaged at the same time has caused serious concerns in the community. There has been no official statement from NVIDIA or the power supply manufacturer yet.

This incident has brought back to the agenda the trust issues regarding the 12VHPWR connector standard, which has been discussed since the RTX 4090 era. In the past, some users have reported similar meltdowns due to the connector not being fully seated or being bent too much. The fact that such problems occurred with the RTX 5090 suggests that sufficient precautions are still not being taken in the new generation hardware.

The community states that such problems pose great risks in terms of financial and security, especially for users who build high-performance systems. In the comments on Reddit, messages such as “No matter how carefully you insert the connector, something can still go wrong somewhere” are striking. Users are either turning to different adapters for a solution or waiting for an explanation from the manufacturers.

Although there has been no official statement from NVIDIA on the subject yet, if such feedback increases, manufacturers may need to develop more durable connector systems. This situation is critical in terms of system security for users working under high loads such as gaming and content production. Expectations are for more comprehensive testing and design revisions to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
