Obsidian Wants a New Pillars of Eternity Game
Pillars of Eternity stands out as one of the favorite series of RPG lovers. Obsidian Entertainment’s design director Josh Sawyer gave interesting details about the future of the series in his latest statements. Sawyer said that the team would like to make a Pillars of Eternity Tactics game after Avowed. However, the fact that tactics games have a limited fan base and the difficulties of making the scope of the project economically sustainable are seen as one of the biggest obstacles to this plan.
Pillars of Eternity Tactics Game Idea
Josh Sawyer stated in his statement that many people in the studio want to work on a tactics-based Pillars of Eternity game. However, he emphasized that such games appeal to a relatively niche audience and therefore the development budget should be planned carefully. Sawyer said, “If you make a good tactics game, players who love the genre will definitely buy it. However, this community is not very large, so sales may be limited.”
He also stated that the visual quality and scope of the project should be comparable to big-budget games like Avowed, which makes the project more complicated. However, he added that the Obsidian team is seriously considering the idea.
Obsidian’s return to the Eora universe with Avowed has increased fans’ expectations for Pillars of Eternity 3. Sawyer stated that he would love to make a third Pillars game if Xbox allocated a budget as large as Baldur’s Gate 3. Avowed director Carrie Patel also expressed her desire to see more games in this fantasy world.
The fact that the Obsidian team is considering both tactical games and a full-scale sequel excites Pillars of Eternity fans. However, it seems that whether these projects will come true will largely depend on economic and strategic factors.
