Octopath Traveler 0 Announced

Square Enix and Dokidoki Groove Works have officially announced Octopath Traveler 0, the new installment in the Octopath Traveler series. The game, which will be released worldwide on December 4, 2025, will be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC. This game returns with HD-2D visuals that combine the series’ retro style with modern graphics, while also increasing gameplay variety with brand-new character creation, a town-building system, and 8-player teams. With both a nod to nostalgia and strategic depth, it’s poised to exceed Octopath fans’ expectations.

What Does Octopath Traveler 0 Offer?

Octopath Traveler 0 puts the player at the heart of the story. In its epic tale of revenge and rebuilding, the journey begins with the destruction of the town of Wishvale and progresses to unraveling the mystery of the divine rings. Players can customize their main character as they wish: voice tone, hairstyle, favorite food, and more will all be customizable. This customization will further strengthen the player’s connection to the story.

With the newly introduced Town Building feature, you’ll be able to build your town from scratch, construct new buildings, and invite characters you meet along the way. These building blocks shape not only the visuals but also in-game quests and resource access. While there are building limits across platforms, the content remains the same.

The battle system retains the Break & Boost mechanics. You can force enemies into a “Break” state by focusing on their weak points, then use your accumulated Boost points to unleash lethal moves. The eight-character battle roster gains more strategic depth with front and back row rotations. Furthermore, each character’s “ultimate techniques,” or special moves, can change the course of battle with a single move.

Path Actions allow you to battle characters you meet along the way, collect their items, or invite them to your town. The game world is shaped by the player’s choices. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition is available for $59.99 and includes additional content:

  • Deluxe Travel Provisions DLC
  • Digital art book
  • Special items and town decorations

The Collector’s Edition is priced at $229.99 and includes the following items:

  • Flamebringer ring
  • Eight-sided dice and special card deck
  • Orsterra playmat
  • Editing CD
  • Art book
  • Digital Deluxe upgrade code

Pre-orders will receive the “Travel Provisions” pack. Additionally, if you have a save file from previous games (Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest HD-2D), you’ll receive in-game bonuses.

Octopath Traveler 0 is coming to all next-gen consoles and PC, along with Nintendo Switch 2. With its HD-2D art style, customizable heroes, and town building, this game isn’t just a classic RPG; it also offers players the opportunity to write their own story. This journey, where retro and modern meet, has already taken its place among the most anticipated RPGs of the year.
