Official Xbox Emulator Coming to Windows

It’s been claimed that work has begun on an official Xbox emulator for Windows. This feature, a long-awaited dream for gamers, could bring classic Xbox games to PC. Rumors suggest that Microsoft could roll out this technology as early as 2026 as part of its cross-platform gaming strategy.

Xbox Emulator Could Come to Windows in 2026

The leak originated from editor Jez Corden, known for his close ties to Microsoft. Corden stated on Discord, “Work is underway on an emulator to run Xbox games on Windows.” This announcement was widely seen as the first serious signal that Xbox fans have been waiting for years for official PC compatibility.

According to Corden, this new system will be able to run classic Xbox and, in particular, Xbox 360 games. However, the solution won’t be a traditional emulator, but rather a system specifically designed for licensed games. Therefore, Microsoft will need to re-enter licensing agreements with publishers. This means each game will be added to the system individually, and players will have access to a curated library.

This structure is similar to Nintendo Switch Online’s classic game system. In other words, the Xbox emulator will support games selected by Microsoft, not every game. However, the availability of this technology on portable PCs like the ROG Xbox Ally could add significant flexibility to the gaming ecosystem. It’s believed this system will be an expanded version, particularly for users participating in the Xbox Play Anywhere program.

Microsoft’s “platform agnostic” vision, which it has embraced in recent years, supports this claim. The company aims to eliminate console limitations and make games accessible on every device. If the rumors are true, Xbox’s long history will mark a new chapter in the Windows ecosystem. All eyes are now on Microsoft’s 2026 event calendar for the official announcement.
