Painkiller PC Demo Released

The classic horror-action series Painkiller returns with a next-gen version. Publisher 3D Realms and developer Anshar Studios have released a two-minute trailer and a playable demo for PC as part of Steam Next Fest: October 2025. The full game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 21, 2025.

Painkiller Brings Back Hell in a Remastered Version

The new Painkiller once again invites players on a dark journey of purification. The story follows a soul afflicted by the wrath of Heaven as it battles the armies of Hell for a chance at redemption. Players will embark on a deadly struggle, both solo and in online co-op for up to three players, as they attempt to stop the fallen angel Azazel from invading the world.

The game stands out with its fast-paced combat mechanics, grappling hooks, and jumping combinations. Demonic creatures, massive monsters, and terrifying bosses called Nephilim challenge players on vast gothic maps. The new version combines both classic Painkiller weapons and all-new hell-themed weapons.

Painkiller features four different characters: Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch. Each has its own unique perks, attack styles, and special powers. Players can improve their abilities by collecting tarot cards and expand their arsenal by leveling up. This system increases the strategic depth of combat and offers an RPG-like progression.

The new Rogue Angel Mode stands out as a roguelike mode separate from the main story. Players will encounter random enemies, collect cards and weapons, and return stronger after each death in this mode, each consisting of hand-crafted arenas. This mode promises a long-lasting experience, especially with online co-op.

3D Realms states that the new Painkiller will remain true to the series’ roots but be updated with modern gameplay dynamics. The refreshed visuals, improved movement system, and dynamic combat make the game appealing to both longtime fans and new generations of FPS enthusiasts. Painkiller launches on October 21st, and the demo is currently available for free on Steam.
