Path of Exile 2 Hacked
Ahead of the release of Path of Exile 2, it was revealed that a hacker had taken over the game’s administrator account, thus gaining access to dozens of players’ accounts and emptying their inventories. The game’s developer, Grinding Gear Games (GGG), confirmed the hack in a podcast broadcast about the incident. It was stated that the hacker stole rare and valuable items that players had spent hours earning. This situation has received a great deal of backlash, especially on the game’s social media platforms and forums.
Security Vulnerability in Path of Exile 2
According to GGG’s statement, after taking over an administrator account, the hacker gained the authority to reset players’ passwords. Abusing this authority, the hacker took control of many accounts and stole the items that players had accumulated in their inventories. It is noteworthy that the incident occurred close to the game’s release date. It seems that the hacker put a big “robbery” plan into action by waiting for players to collect their items.
Game director Jonathan Rogers admitted responsibility for the security breach in a podcast he attended, saying, “This was completely our fault.” The development team promised to improve security systems to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Path of Exile 2 players reacted to GGG by stating that they were victims of the security breach. The fact that many players spent hundreds of hours on items were stolen caused great disappointment in the game’s community.
GGG announced that they will take additional measures to make players’ accounts more secure. It also stated that work is being done on how to compensate the players who were victimized.
