Peacemaker 2 Will Be Connected to Superman: Man of Tomorrow
Since its first season, Peacemaker has been one of the DCU’s most diverse and entertaining projects. John Cena’s chaotic yet heartfelt portrayal of Chris Smith resonated deeply with audiences, and the series’ future direction has long been a matter of curiosity. James Gunn clarified both Peacemaker 2’s position and its relationship to Superman: Man of Tomorrow. It appears that television and film will no longer operate in isolation within the DCU, but rather will feed into each other.
The Connection Between Peacemaker 2 and Superman: Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn stated in a social media Q&A that Peacemaker 2 is “very, very connected” to Man of Tomorrow. He believes television offers a great opportunity to delve deeper into the characters. This way, the transformations experienced by the Peacemaker team will resonate in the Superman film. Gunn described this process as the “Butterfly Effect,” stating that small differences can lead to major consequences.
Gunn also addressed Lois Lane’s role, summarizing the character’s importance simply with the words, “She’s important.” This brief but clear statement suggests that Lois will be central to the story in Man of Tomorrow. It’s anticipated that she will play a crucial role alongside Superman, particularly in the film, which will feature Lex Luthor’s Warsuit.
The cast of Peacemaker 2 was met with praise. Gunn noted Steve Agee’s significant growth in acting and emphasized that the friendship between Harcourt and Peacemaker took on a new dimension after the death of Rick Flag Jr. This relationship appears to have deepened further in the second season, both dramatically and emotionally.
There were also hints about the future of the DCU. Gunn revisited characters he had long wanted to bring to the big screen, such as Sasha Bordeaux and the Ultra-Humanite. He even humorously floated the idea of a “Peacemaker Broadway musical.” This demonstrates his plans to diversify the DCU not only with major hero stories but also with lesser-known characters.
Peacemaker 2 premiered on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, to positive reviews from critics. Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027, and will be the seventh film in the DCU’s first installment, “Gods and Monsters.” This interconnected development stands as one of the most concrete steps in the DCU’s goal of uniting the television and cinematic universes into a single, grand story.
