Perfect Dark Project Cancelled

Xbox’s recent layoffs have also brought about the end of important projects. One of these projects, the Perfect Dark remake, is no longer in development. With the cancellation of the game, its studio The Initiative was shut down, while Microsoft’s partnership with Crystal Dynamics was also completely ended.

Perfect Dark Was Deleted from Reports Along with Its Studio

According to information confirmed by Insider Gaming, the Perfect Dark remake has been completely canceled. The game’s main developer, The Initiative, has also been shut down. Windows Central editor Jez Corden was the first to confirm the studio’s closure. Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw had previously heard that the studio was at risk, but could not confirm it.

Xbox manager Matt Booty explained the reasoning behind the decisions in a memo sent to employees. In this memo, Booty drew attention to the changing structure of the industry and stated that they aimed to use resources more efficiently. He also emphasized that it was not easy to make such decisions after years of work.

Microsoft not only ended the Perfect Dark project and The Initiative studio. All collaborations with Crystal Dynamics were also stopped. There has been no official statement from Microsoft at the moment. However, it is thought that such decisions may continue within the scope of the company’s restructuring process.

Perfect Dark was first released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000 and gained cult status over time. The remake project was among the projects that gamers followed with great anticipation. However, with this cancellation, another era in the gaming world came to an end.
