Pillars of Eternity 3 Will Be Like Baldur’s Gate 3

The anticipation for the third game of Pillars of Eternity, one of the beloved series of the CRPG world, never diminishes. Although the legendary director of Obsidian Entertainment Josh Sawyer is not currently working on a new Pillars of Eternity game, he gave clues about what a possible sequel would be like. Speaking to Gamepressure, Sawyer said that a new game could have a modern 3D environment like Baldur’s Gate 3.

What is Being Considered for Pillars Of Eternity 3?

According to Sawyer, although Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire has great mechanics, the environmental dynamics are limited due to the isometric camera angle. A full 3D environment like Baldur’s Gate 3 has proven that height and dynamic terrain will enrich the gameplay. Sawyer expressed that he would like to see this approach in a new Pillars game.

Sawyer excited fans by saying, “If the mechanics in Deadfire are combined with the added environmental elements, height hazards and dynamic terrain, it will be a great experience.” He also stated that such a game could offer a freer RPG structure that does not adhere to Dungeons & Dragons rules.

There are busy days in the Obsidian front right now. The studio is continuing its preparations for Grounded 2, which will be released for early access on July 29, and The Outer Worlds 2, which will be released on October 29. Therefore, an announcement is not expected for Pillars of Eternity 3 in the near future. Still, these statements from Josh Sawyer kept fans’ hopes alive. Who knows, maybe one day it will be possible to see a Pillars of Eternity game as good as Baldur’s Gate 3!
