PlayStation 1 Turned Into Crab

YouTube creator GingerOfOz has redesigned an old PlayStation 1 console into the shape of a crab. Dubbed the “Playstacean,” the console is made up of 56 3D-printed parts. Its movable arms act as controllers and include modifications that allow for region-free disc compatibility. This special design is striking in terms of both aesthetics and functionality.

PlayStation 1’s Crab Design

Playstacean was inspired by a drawing by artist Anh Dang. GingerOfOz reconfigured a PlayStation 1 he purchased from eBay. The motherboard was cut to fit the crab shape, and the upper shell was fitted with eye sockets and antennas. The bottom section was used to house the motherboard, disk drive, and ports. Great attention was paid to detail to emphasize the console’s crab shape.

The console’s arms have a three-joint structure and a ball-socket mechanism. These arms offer mobility and can also be used as controllers. There are triggers at the ends of the arms and provide players with a different experience. The internal wiring has been carefully designed to prevent confusion.

Playstacean is equipped with a modchip and can run PlayStation 1 games from all regions. A multiplexer has also been integrated into the console for dual controller support. This device manages data lines and allows switching between controllers. In addition, a special circuit board and switch make it possible to activate controller mode. These technical details ensure that the console has both a functional and innovative structure.

A total of 56 3D printed parts were used for the design of the console. These parts were carefully combined for both aesthetics and functionality. Although Playstacean is larger than the original PlayStation 1, all its components work smoothly. The sturdy legs and supporting internal structures used in its design increase the stability of the device.

Playstacean preserves the basic features of PlayStation 1 while offering a different experience with its crab-themed design. With its movable arms and special modifications, this console stands out as a remarkable innovation in the gaming world.
