PlayStation 6 Becomes Sony’s Priority
Almost five years have passed since the PlayStation 5 was released, and gamers are now looking to Sony’s next step. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino stated in a statement that PlayStation 6 is one of the company’s priority projects. This statement shows how important the traditional console concept still is for Sony.
Sony Continues Hardware-Focused Strategy with PS6
Speaking at the presentation for investors, Nishino acknowledged that cloud-based gaming systems have technically improved, while factors such as network stability and cost per game still pose disadvantages compared to traditional consoles. For this reason, PlayStation 6 is central to the company’s platform strategy. According to Nishino, the vast majority of gamers prefer to experience games on local hardware.
Sony’s approach is also fed by the broad ecosystem it has established with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Nishino stated that the strong user base that has formed over these two generations has also created a serious area of interest for PlayStation 6. Although official details have not yet been shared, it was emphasized that the next-generation console is in the development process and that the “future of the platform” is being addressed as the top priority.
Lynn Azar, one of the company’s financial managers, also participated in the statements and stated that Sony has transformed the classic console cycle into a broader ecosystem approach. The sustainable revenue model provided by PS4 and PS5 users will be supported by new methods that will maintain the multi-generational structure in the future. This shows that PS6 will not only be a piece of hardware, but also a platform where interaction with players will be renewed.
