PlayStation 6 Could Be Faster and Cheaper Than PS5 Pro

While the PS5 Pro’s release is still awaited, ambitious details about the PlayStation 6 have begun to emerge. Leaked information suggests that Sony is preparing to tailor not only performance but also pricing for its next-generation console to benefit consumers. The PlayStation 6, which is said to be powered by a next-generation AMD chipset, is claimed to be both faster and more energy-efficient than the PS5 Pro. Furthermore, despite this performance increase, the console’s price is likely to remain around the PS5’s.

PlayStation 6 Leak: Powerful Hardware, Affordable Price

Technology YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, the source of the leak, suggests that Sony will opt for a next-generation APU running on AMD’s RDNA 5 architecture for the PlayStation 6. This chip, reportedly running at 3GHz and boasting between 40 and 48 Compute Units, could also be equipped with eight Zen 6 cores. Despite all this hardware, its total power consumption will be only 160W, making it more efficient than the PS5 Pro.

On the performance front, the PS6 is said to be up to three times faster than the original PS5. Ray tracing technology is expected to feature a significant leap forward, with claims that 4K 120 FPS performance will be truly available this time around. The PS6 may have a lower Compute Unit count than the PS5 Pro, but its RDNA 5 architecture is said to offer higher efficiency per core.

One of the key points of the leak is Sony’s commitment to keeping costs under control in the next generation. Accordingly, the PS6 could launch at a price similar to the PS5’s launch price. This means users will be able to access higher resolutions and graphical quality without additional costs.

Finally, leaked documents indicate that the PS6’s production will begin in 2027. If plans remain unchanged, the PlayStation 6 is expected to hit shelves in 2028. Of course, not all of this information has been officially confirmed yet, so it’s best to keep expectations cautious. Still, it’s clear Sony is aiming for a user-friendly console experience this generation.
