PlayStation Games May Come to Different Platforms
PlayStation is preparing for a radical change in the gaming world. Instead of limiting its first-party games to its own consoles, the company plans to offer them to other platforms. LEGO Horizon Adventures, released for Nintendo Switch in 2024, was the first example of this strategy. PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst stated that they aimed to bring the PlayStation community to a wider audience with this move.
PlayStation’s First Step: LEGO Horizon Adventures
PlayStation had previously released some of its games only for PC. However, LEGO Horizon Adventures, released for Nintendo Switch, shows that PlayStation has started to bring its first-party games to other consoles. A family-friendly and small-scale game, LEGO Horizon Adventures stands out as one of the first steps in PlayStation’s strategy to reach a wider audience.
In an interview with Famitsu, Hermen Hulst stated that this strategy could see more first-party games coming to different platforms in the future. “PlayStation Studios is developing games like Astro Bot and LEGO Horizon Adventures to expand our community. We also plan to bring big titles like Ghost of Yotei to players,” Hulst said.
Sony has made remarkable strides during 2024, at a time when other major companies are following similar strategies. While Microsoft is releasing first-party games like Indiana Jones and Outer Worlds 2 on PlayStation, Sony seems to be adapting to this competition. However, Sony is being very careful about its game selection during this transition period, and each game is subject to a meticulous review process.
