Pokemon Legends: Z-A Shatters Sales Records

The Pokemon legend has once again broken records. According to Nintendo Japan, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has achieved great success, selling 5.8 million copies in its first week of release. The new game, which further expands upon Arceus’s open-world structure, is being hailed as one of the best entries in the series by both players and critics.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Becomes One of the Best-Selling Games on Nintendo Switch 2

According to a press release from Nintendo Japan, Pokemon Legends: Z-A sold 5.8 million copies worldwide in its launch week. This figure makes the game one of the fastest-selling titles not only in the Pokemon series but also on the Nintendo Switch 2. For comparison, Mario Kart World sold 5.6 million copies in its launch month—Z-A surpassed that figure in just one week.

The new game maintains the series’ classic style while offering a completely revamped open-world experience set in Lumiose City. This universe, featuring hundreds of Pokémon from different regions, makes Arceus’s open-air battle system even deeper and more dynamic. Critics praised the game’s fast-paced combat system and detailed exploration mechanics.

The success of Pokemon Legends: Z-A has breathed new life into the series after a period in which the Scarlet and Violet games, in particular, received mixed reviews. The game’s atmosphere nods to past Pokemon generations, while the power of the next-generation console offers a more vibrant Lumiose City experience. In this respect, it has successfully united both nostalgic players and new-generation fans.

Nintendo’s statement stated that almost half of its sales came from the Nintendo Switch 2, demonstrating a strong launch for the new console. If sales momentum continues, Z-A is expected to quickly surpass the 14.8 million sales record set by Pokemon Legends: Arceus, released in 2023.
