Preparations Have Begun for Cyberpunk 2
The long-awaited first step has been taken for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red announced in its 2025 first quarter financial report meeting that the new game has now officially entered the pre-production phase. Thus, the first concrete development regarding the future of the series has been officially shared. According to the data shared by the company via its X account, a special team has currently been formed for Cyberpunk 2. However, it may take a few years for the game to enter full production. This shows that a clear time frame for the release date of the new game cannot yet be foreseen.
Cyberpunk 2 Developer Team Expands
According to the developer distribution table published by CD Projekt Red, a total of 730 developers are spread across different projects as of April 30, 2025. The largest part of this team is working on Witcher 4 with 422 people. It is followed by Cyberpunk 2 with 96 developers. This number is considered an indication that the project is progressing seriously.
When we look at the studio’s other projects, 48 developers are working on Project Sirius and 19 are working on Project Hadar, a completely original production. The remaining team members are working on shared services and projects that have not yet been announced. This distribution shows that CD Projekt Red is working on more than one major project at the same time and still attaches great importance to the Cyberpunk universe.
Although not much information has been shared about Cyberpunk 2, the development team stated that the new game will have more realistic and responsive crowd systems. In addition, the city where the game will take place was described as “a distorted version of Chicago”. This indicates that the atmosphere may be darker and more intense than the previous game.
In addition to these developments in the Cyberpunk universe, CD Projekt Red also shared some sales data. Cyberpunk 2077’s expansion pack Phantom Liberty exceeded 10 million sales. The Witcher 3 achieved great success by selling a total of 60 million copies. The total revenue of this game amounted to 2.4 billion Polish zlotys, or approximately $64 million.
