Primate Gives Goosebumps with Its First Trailer

Directed by Johannes Roberts, Primate tells the story of a horrific event that spirals out of control during a family vacation. The film centers on a pet chimpanzee who contracts rabies at a pool party and subsequently descends into a deadly frenzy. We don’t see the creature itself in the released trailer, but a panicked call to 911 provides ample insight into the horror to come.

Primate Delivers Suspense and Horror

The film, which premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 18th, received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. Currently boasting an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it promises to be one of the most compelling horror films of the year.

Director Johannes Roberts has proven his mastery of the thriller genre with films like 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey at Night. With Primate, he aims to bring the fear of nature back into the spotlight.

The film stars Johnny Sequoyah as Lucy, Jessica Alexander as Hannah, and Oscar-winning Troy Kotsur as Adam. The cast also includes Victoria Wyant, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, and Miguel Torres Umba. The trailer portrays the characters’ struggle to survive amidst chaos through sound and atmosphere, leaving ample room for the audience’s imagination.

Primate offers a modern take on classic alien horror. Despite the trailer’s short runtime, it manages to keep viewers on edge. Roberts reveals the source of fear in this film not only from a wild animal but also from human overstepping their boundaries. The film, which challenges the very essence of true terror, will be released in theaters on January 9, 2026.
