PS5 Liquid Metal Issue Still Not Fixed
Complaints that the liquid metal component used in the PS5‘s cooling system leaks downward over time, causing the device to dry out and overheat have resurfaced. This is thought to be the main reason behind PS5 devices suddenly shutting down during gameplay. Moreover, new information suggests that this problem may be more widespread than previously thought.
PS5’s Liquid Metal Problem Continues
A content creator named Alderon conducted research on his PS5 constantly shutting down during intense gameplay and revealed that the liquid metal was leaking down and leaving gaps in this area. These gaps cause the device to not cool down sufficiently and cause sudden shutdowns. Moreover, the number of users reporting this problem is increasing.
The PlayStation front confirmed that the liquid metal leakage problem was detected in 2023 and that some physical changes were made to the new models to solve this problem. The PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro models have protective protrusions on the inner surface to prevent the spread of liquid. However, it is still unclear whether these measures are really effective.
The first PS5 owners cannot benefit from such measures. It is unclear what will be done for these devices whose warranty period has expired. Some experts argue that PlayStation should launch a free repair campaign for these users. The repair service offered by Xbox after the “red ring” problem for the 360 model and the support provided by Nintendo for the Joy-Con drift problem are given as examples.
There has been no official statement from the PlayStation front in this direction yet. However, experts recommend that users use their devices horizontally. Because the possibility of liquid metal flowing down by gravity is higher when the console is in an upright position.
