Rayman Returns in AAA Quality
The news that will please Rayman fans is finally here. The new Rayman project, which was announced to be in the “exploration phase” last year, has now officially entered the development process. According to the latest job postings published by Ubisoft, a new AAA-scale game is being worked on for the Rayman franchise and new developers are being sought for the project.
The Rayman Series is Being Reborn for the Next Generation
The job posting published by Ubisoft Milan clearly states that a 3D game animator is being sought for a “prestigious AAA Rayman project.” In addition, another posting is looking for a “senior game designer to work on the Rayman franchise.” This shows that the series, which has been silent for a long time, is not just an experimental project and is moving into a full-fledged production process.
The first signals were given in 2023, when Ubisoft announced that its Montpellier and Milan studios were refocusing on the Rayman brand. At the time, the company stated that the project was still in its early stages and only said that “we will share more information over time.” However, it seems that the first attempts have been successful and the project is being fully implemented.
The revival of the Rayman brand is a strategic move for Ubisoft. The company has been struggling with financial difficulties, low sales and studio closures in recent years. Therefore, it became inevitable to reinvest in a long-standing name like Rayman in line with the company’s goal of “supporting the development of iconic brands.”
The only controversial detail about the project is that Rayman creator Michel Ancel was involved in the process as a consultant. Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020 and toxic leadership allegations were subsequently made about him. It is not clear at this time whether Ancel’s role in the project will continue, but this may have caused some concerns within the team.
Still, the fact that Rayman is being shaped by experienced teams like Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan shows that the project is promising in terms of quality. This team, known for classics like Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, also creates great expectations for the new game of the series.
