Refunds Have Started for Fortnite Players

Following Epic Games’ legal process with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 2023, a new phase has begun in refunds made to Fortnite players. The first wave of payments was completed in 2024, and now the second major wave of payments has begun. In line with the company’s total refund decision of $245 million, new transfers of millions of dollars will be made to the rightful owners.

Fortnite Refund Process Continues with FTC’s Second Wave of Payments

In the lawsuit filed by the FTC against Epic Games in 2023, it was determined that players were directed to unwanted expenses and children were able to shop without parental approval. This means that the company misled players with its dark interface designs. As a result of the court, Epic Games was sentenced to pay a total refund of $245 million.

Refunds Have Started for Fortnite Players

The first refund process began in December 2024, with $72 million in payments made. Now, the second wave of payments has come into effect, covering almost 1 million Fortnite players. There are a few conditions to be eligible for a refund: Unauthorized credit card use, unwanted in-game purchases, or users whose accounts were locked due to disputing these situations can apply for a refund.

The deadline for applications to apply for a refund is July 9, 2025, with refund requests being made through the FTC’s website. The total amount of payments made so far has reached $198 million, with a final wave of payments planned for the remaining amount.

Although Epic Games announced that it has changed its purchasing systems in Fortnite following the incidents, the refund process shows that the company is still trying to fix the impact its practices in 2023 have had on players.
