Resident Evil 9’s Camera Choice Revealed
When it comes to horror games, Resident Evil 9 has been one of the most influential games in shaping player expectations. It’s well-known that Grace Ashcroft will be featured in the new installment, but the most striking change is the camera setup. Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi explained that they took a different approach in the new game, taking into account the experiences of previous games.
Resident Evil 9 Will Feature Both First- and Third-Person Cameras
Resident Evil 7, Capcom’s first attempt at a first-person camera, threw players directly into the heart of the horror scene. The atmosphere created by the Baker family, combined with limited resources, fueled tension. However, this intense horror experience proved too much for some players, leading many to abandon the game midway through. Therefore, the new installment in the series offers a freedom of choice.
Both first-person and third-person camera perspectives will be available in Resident Evil 9. This allows players to experience the horror from a closer perspective or experience a more detached experience by seeing their characters on screen. Capcom’s approach seems to facilitate the series’ appeal to diverse audiences.
Nakanishi even stated that Resident Evil 7 was so terrifying that some players weren’t even able to start the game. In this regard, the third-person camera will serve as a kind of “protective distance.” Seeing the character on screen will provide psychological relief for players and bring back the classic Resident Evil experience.
However, the first-person camera option remains for players who want to experience the horror firsthand. This means those who enjoyed the claustrophobic experience of the Baker house will be able to experience the same intensity in Resident Evil 9. The new installment in the series looks set to have a balanced structure that will satisfy both veteran and newcomers.
