Resident Evil Requiem May Release as a Special Edition on PS4

Capcom’s highly anticipated new horror game, Resident Evil Requiem, has officially been confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, rumors circulating in the gaming world suggest that this game may also be available for PS4 owners. A string of recent rumors suggests that a special last-gen version may be in development.

Resident Evil Requiem Rumors for PS4

Dusk Golem, known for his leaks, has reportedly heard that Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PS4. According to reports, Capcom is developing a pared-down and adapted version for PS4 while preserving the technologies developed specifically for last-gen hardware. This suggests that separate versions with different technical solutions could be created between the old and new generations.

Golem stated that Requiem will feature a new ray-tracing-based lighting system on PS5 and Series X/S, but that the PS4 version will not feature these features. Instead, he predicted that a simpler experience could be offered using the RE Engine with a different technical infrastructure.

Capcom’s strategy may be driven by the goal of reaching a broader player base. Company president Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently stated that Monster Hunter Wilds fell short of expectations due to the “PS5 barrier.” The PS5’s high price and limited user base make it logical for the company to maintain last-gen support.

However, it’s not yet clear whether the PS4 version will be available at launch or later. This uncertainty suggests that players who haven’t upgraded to the current generation may have to wait a bit longer. The only certainty for Resident Evil fans is that Requiem will be one of Capcom’s most ambitious projects.
