Retro Console Vectrex Mini to be Launched in November
The Vectrex Mini is a modern-day reimagining of one of gaming history’s most iconic consoles. Kickstarter Campaign Launches for the Vectrex Mini
The Vectrex Mini’s launch has already generated significant excitement in the retro gaming community. David Oghia, the project’s creator, announced that the device will begin funding on Kickstarter on November 3rd. Initially, limited-edition models called “Founder’s Editions” will be available, with lower prices for these special editions. This edition, which stands out as both aesthetically pleasing and valuable for collectors, is expected to sell out quickly.
The pricing policy also features noteworthy details. The first 50 “Founder’s Edition” models will be available for $115, after which the standard price will increase to $150. A 200-unit “White Edition” will also be released for $250. This special white version will stand out with its certified numbered production and highly collectible design. Oghia also shared that it initially considered a gold model, but production challenges forced its abandonment.
On the hardware front, the device looks quite impressive. The 4:3 aspect ratio AMOLED display, high-contrast graphics, and HDMI output will make it suitable for both desktop and large-screen use. The console will come with 12 pre-installed games, and microSD support will allow for expanding the game library. These features offer a nostalgic nod to the original Vectrex’s CRT screen while also providing convenience with modern technologies. The clarity offered by the AMOLED display, in particular, will allow vintage vector graphics to shine with today’s standards.
