Retro Game Console ModRetro N64 Announced
A modern touch is coming to the world of retro gaming. ModRetro has officially announced its new console, the ModRetro N64, designed as a tribute to the Nintendo 64. While technical details are limited at this time, the device’s price and the short promotional video have already been enough to excite retro enthusiasts.
ModRetro N64 Returns with FPGA Technology
The ModRetro N64 is designed as an FPGA console that aims to recreate the original Nintendo 64 experience on a hardware level. Having previously gained attention with the Game Boy-like ModRetro Chromatic, the company is bringing the same high-quality approach to a desktop console. Priced at $200, the device may be a more affordable option than its rival, the Analog 3D.
Not much information has been released about the device’s technical specifications yet. However, a promotional video released by company founder Palmer Luckey highlights the release date, stating, “Don’t open it until Christmas.” This suggests the device could be released towards the end of the year.
It’s currently unclear whether the HDMI output, video streaming support, and multiplayer gaming features found in the Chromatic model will also be included in this new console. However, it’s thought that these features could make the ModRetro N64 not only a nostalgic but also a modern gaming solution.
FPGA consoles are particularly popular with collectors and dedicated gamers because they offer a hardware-level gaming experience rather than emulation. It’s eagerly awaited to see whether the ModRetro N64 will feature features similar to those offered by Analog 3D, such as 4K display and CRT filtering. Retro enthusiasts will be keeping an eye on this device ahead of the company’s official announcement.
