Rocksteady Could be Working on a Batman Game
According to the insider’s new report, Rocksteady could be working on a new single-player Batman game following thefall of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
New Single Player Batman Game
With 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight serving as a finale of sorts to the Arkhamverse Batman saga, Rocksteady decided to branch out for its next DC game with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This team centric open world game pitted the reformed villains of Task Force X against Brainiac and his brainwashed team of heroes. However, Suicide Squad faced a seemingly never-ending stream of controversies and a lackluster response when it launched in early 2024, which eventually culminated in Rocksteady ending support for the game not even a year later.
Now Rocksteady could be shifting back toward the hero that first brought it success in its next project. This comes from a recent report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier on the state of WB Games following the departure of former president David Haddad late last month. One of the many claims in this report is that Rocksteady is developing a new, single player Batman game, but it is reportedly years away from release.
No other details about this mystery Batman game have been revealed. It isn’t even a certainty that Rocksteady would set this new project in the Arkhamverse or reboot the series in the vein of WB Montreal’s Gotham Knights, but the former would seem more likely given the recent success of Batman: Arkham Shadow on the Meta Quest 3.
Batman wasn’t the only DC superhero mentioned in the recent WB Games report. Bloomberg says that Monolith’s Wonder Woman game was completely rebooted after switching directors early last year, setting the project back significantly. Meanwhile, a planned Flash game from WB Montreal was reportedly canceled following the failure of 2023’s The Flash movie, and the studio’s pitch for a John Constantine title was never approved.
