[Rumor] New God of War Game Could be Announcing Soon

New God of War Game is Coming?

God of War is one of PlayStation’s longest-running franchises, with its most recent mainline entry, God of War Ragnarok, having launched just two years ago. The critically-acclaimed conclusion to the Norse saga set up more God of War titles for the future, but if recent rumors are to be believed, the series’ formative Greek saga could be making a comeback. Remasters of the Greek God of War games are reportedly in the works at PlayStation’s PC porting studio Nixxes, and may be released next year to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary.

An insider Lunatic Ignus, the source behind the rumor of the Greek saga remasters, has now alleged in a recent tweet that Sony will make a “God of War related” announcement this December. The insider is “sure” this announcement will either happen at The Game Awards or a potential PlayStation State of Play or Showcase. However, credible insider Jeff Grubb recently shot down rumors of a PlayStation event in December, leaving only The Game Awards for Lunatic Ignus’ claimed God of War announcement.

There is some precedence for a potential God of War announcement at the 2024 Game Awards ceremony. God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC was revealed at TGA 2023, so the prospect of Sony returning to the 2024 event in a similar capacity isn’t all that unfathomable. Additionally, it’s worth narrowing down what God of War fans could expect from this supposed announcement. It’s quite unlikely that the next mainline God of War game, or even the rumored Atreus spin off title, will be ready for a formal reveal right now.
