[Rumor] Resident Evil 9 Release Window Might be Revealed

A reputable insider says that Resident Evil 9 could be announced very soon, potential release window mid to late 2025.

2024 has seen a spike in activity surrounding Resident Evil 9 rumors, namely the game’s starring characters, setting, development timeline, possible protagonist, and open-world ambitions. Additionally, Resident Evil 9’s reveal was reportedly going to happen this summer, but these plans were apparently postponed at the last minute. Resident Evil fans were understandably disappointed, but if a very recent rumor is to be believed, they may not be too far away from an exciting surprise.

Reliable industry insider Lunatic Ignus recently claimed on their Discord channel that Capcom is gearing up to reveal Resident Evil 9 with a teaser in the “coming weeks/months.” It can be argued that the timeline for this announcement is rather vague, but it does line up with another nugget of exciting information the insider provided, which is that Resident Evil 9’s launch is reportedly being planned for the second half of 2025. This further lines up with a previous rumor about Resident Evil 9’s release being delayed to late 2025, lending credence to the purported launch window.

If true, a year in advance announcement for Resident Evil 9 would be consistent with Capcom’s patterns for previous Resident Evil releases. Lunatic Ignus didn’t provide any details on where Resident Evil 9 could be revealed, so it’s anyone’s guess at the moment. Logic would dictate that the two major remaining gaming events for this year, namely Tokyo Game Show 2024 and The Game Awards, are very likely candidates for the Resident Evil 9 announcement. Capcom is even exhibiting at Tokyo Game Show, so the likelihood for Resident Evil 9 to be part of the festivities seems greater, but only time will tell.

It’s also worth noting that Capcom and PlayStation have always maintained a solid relationship, as Resident Evil Village was announced during PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event in summer 2020 and the Resident Evil 4 remake was announced during the summer 2022 State of Play. Taking this pattern into consideration, as well as the fact that several recent rumors point to a September 2024 State of Play airing next week, Resident Evil 9’s announcement may be much closer than fans think.
