Scooby-Doo Netflix Adaptation Comes with a New Style
New details have emerged for Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action Scooby-Doo series. Months after the official announcement, leaked information about the project has generated considerable excitement among fans. Hints about the series’ inspiration and the characters’ ages suggest a completely different take on the classic series.
Scooby-Doo Netflix Series Will Inspire Stranger Things
According to What’s on Netflix, the live-action Scooby-Doo series aims to capture the spirit of Stranger Things. The series will feature Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby as younger versions of themselves, aged 14-17. This marks the first time the Scooby-Doo crew will focus on their teenage years in a live-action format.
Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026. The project is being produced by Midnight Radio, led by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner are also executive producers. No release date or cast has been announced yet.
The official synopsis reveals the series’ modern take on the classic mystery-solving theme. The story takes place at Camp Ruby-Spears and begins with Shaggy and Daphne becoming involved in a mysterious case surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy. This mystery hints at both a supernatural murder and the danger of the characters’ own secrets being revealed.
Velma’s logical and scientific approach, Freddy’s quirky yet charming demeanor, and Scooby’s presence drive the team to delve deeper into the case. The series aims to offer a darker, more cinematic take on the Scooby-Doo universe, incorporating elements of both teen drama and thriller. Given the clues and tone, it’s clear Netflix is targeting both longtime fans and a new audience who enjoy the Stranger Things-like teen thriller genre.
