Man Sentenced to Prison for Sending a Bomb to Nintendo
According to Nordot (via Torikara Sokuhou), Judge Hiroshi Kawakami stated that the threats the man sent to Nintendo “caused great harm and that liability is not light”. The court found that the man’s actions served the purpose of distracting from work and reducing the stress caused by online gaming, citing a selfish motive. The judge characterized the defendant’s actions as persistent and malicious.
A Nintendo employee said that they were deeply affected by the threats and that the threats were reminiscent of the “Kyoto Animation arson and murder case”. The Kyoto Animation Arson incident in 2019 was a tragic arson at an anime studio that killed 36 people. Among the threatening messages the defendant sent to Nintendo were statements such as “I will kill everyone involved”.
In the previous report, the person who sent the threats was identified as 27-year-old Hitachi City employee Kenshin Kazama. The prosecutor’s office stated that the threats against Nintendo caused damages worth 700 million Yen (approximately 4.3 million USD). The prosecution requested a one-year prison sentence for the defendant, which the court accepted.
