Shadow The Hedgehog Sequel Hinted

Shadow the Hedgehog, one of the game world’s most iconic characters, may be making a comeback. Sega’s new trademark application in Japan has generated considerable excitement among gamers. Exactly 20 years after the original spin-off’s release in 2005, this registration has raised the possibility of a new game or remaster.

Sega Pursues New Moves for Shadow the Hedgehog

The new trademark application was published by Chizai Watch and is classified under the “Class 9” and “Class 41” categories. These classifications cover video games, educational, and entertainment content. The most striking detail is the inclusion of the phrase “computer programs available for download over the internet.” This definition excludes the original PS2 version, thus reinforcing the possibility that a new Shadow the Hedgehog project is underway.

Sega’s trademark encompasses not only games but also toys, apparel, and even film/TV projects. Fans are nonetheless keeping an eye on a potential new game. This timing is particularly significant as the 20th anniversary of the PS2-era cult spin-off approaches.

Sonic Team president Takashi Iizuka has stated in past interviews that they prefer to tell new stories rather than remake old games. Therefore, a new Shadow game or an expanded remaster seems more likely than a potential remake.

Some fans are also touting the idea of a Sonic Frontiers-style open-world game called “Shadow Frontiers.” If these rumors are true, Shadow could return to the scene with his own game after a long hiatus. It appears Sega is preparing to revive the Shadow the Hedgehog legend with a 2025 revival.
