Horror cinema is preparing for a new nightmare. Chris Stuckmann’s directorial debut, Shelby Oaks, sent shivers down audiences’ spines with its terrifying trailer. The trailer opens the door to the story of a mysterious VHS tape, a missing sibling, and a woman searching for a dark past.
Shelby Oaks Could Represent a New Generation of Horror
In the film, Camille Sullivan’s Mia, searching for her missing sister Riley, stumbles upon a mysterious video that transports her to a mysterious location known as “Shelby Oaks.” The trailer combines the docu-thriller style of Blair Witch, the nightmarish atmosphere of Silent Hill, and the haunted video theme of Ringu. This dark journey is dominated not by hope, but by terror.
The film is being produced by a name well-known to horror enthusiasts: Mike Flanagan. Flanagan, known for his work on films like Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, is producing. The music is by The Newton Brothers, who have previously worked on numerous projects by Flanagan.
Distributed by NEON, the film has received positive reviews at its initial screenings. Shelby Oaks is expected to be released in US theaters on October 3rd. A release date for Turkey or the UK has not yet been announced, but the hope is that the film will be released in time for Halloween. Poised to be one of the most ambitious horror films, Shelby Oaks already appears to be among the most talked-about films of the year.
