Stellar Blade Region Lock Issue

Following the incredible success of Stellar Blade on Sony’s hardware, Shift Up wasn’t shy about sharing its plans to bring the title to PC sometime in the future. This week, Stellar Blade’s Complete Edition was revealed for both PC and PS5, set to introduce 25 new Nano Suits, a new boss fight, additional voiceover options for Japanese and Chinese, and updated facial animations for those taking advantage of these language options. While many are eager to boot up the game on PC and to take advantage of the countless mods that will likely hit the web in the coming weeks, a serious problem has been discovered, hampering many players’ efforts to access the Stellar Blade page on Steam.

Yesterday, it was discovered that the Steam version of Stellar Blade had been blocked in over 100 countries for unknown reasons. Now, Shift Up is seeking to assure eager players, stating in a new Twitter post that the development team is discussing the odd region lock issue with Sony and doing its best to resolve things as quickly as possible. The post also provided some additional details about the upcoming PC release, explicitly stating that, while players are welcome to connect their PSN accounts, they are not required to do so. Mods will be fully supported in Stellar Blade’s PC release with no restrictions, something many players welcome. Unfortunately, the title will still include the controversial Denuvo DRM system.

Despite early controversy, Stellar Blade went on to become a massive hit for Shift UP, becoming the best-selling game in North America in April 2024 and shipping one million copies by June of the same year. Last month, it was announced that Stellar Blade’s director had become one of the 50 richest people in Korea, with Kim Hyung-tae’s net worth nearing the $725 million range. Many are eager to see how the game sells on PC once this region lock issue is addressed.
